What I’m trying to do

Before I get too far into writing articles, I want to welcome you and explain a bit about what I’m trying to do.

I don’t have to tell you that there is a lot of suffering and hardship in the World. The daily news is filled with example after example of what’s wrong and the problems we face. What often gets lost is that there are many, many people — activists, nonprofits, politicians, parents… you know who you are — that are working hard to make the World a better place.

If you’re reading this, you may well be one of those people. If so, thank you for putting yourself out there. With your experience, you’re probably more qualified than I am to write a blog like this, but my hope is that you might be open to hearing my ideas. I certainly hope to learn from you as well.

If you’re like me and are still looking for a meaningful way to contribute, I hope you’ll find both inspiration and practical advice here. What does it mean to make something better? How can we get better at making the World better? My job, as I see it, is to look for answers to these kinds of questions and share them with you.

So, I’ve started this blog, and I’ve committed to posting every day. I’m simultaneously working on a couple of books and another website with the hope that ideas from my projects will fuel ideas for my blog and vice versa. I’m tracking my first 100 days (as though I were the president) to see what kinds of things I can deliver in that time.

Most importantly, though, I want to connect with you. If what I’m trying to do is something you’re interested in, why not subscribe to my blog, leave a comment or send me an email? I look forward to hearing from you and learning about the challenges you face.

Sincerely,
Jim Applegate
