The whole truth and nothing but the truth

The familiar courtroom oath is an ideal that we strive toward, but it’s not really possible.

Our perceptions and ability to understand are limited, so we never know the whole truth. We know our truth which is largely determined by the strength and consistency of our personal universe.

In the same way, we can avoid telling overt lies, but since our truth is imperfect, we can’t avoid passing along the unconscious lies we tell ourselves.
