There’s a good chance that you’re undervaluing your thoughts and ideas.
That’s just a guess, but the people who do the opposite and overvalue their thoughts and ideas don’t usually look for new information, and since you’re here, I assume you’re in the first group.
The Dunning-Kruger effect says (and I’m paraphrasing) that the less you know about a topic, the more likely you are to overvalue your thinking on that topic because you don’t know enough to accurately evaluate how inaccurate your thinking is.
The ability to recognize how little we actually know is a valuable one, but it can lead to us assuming that others must somehow know more. That’s rarely true. The reality is that everyone is operating on limited knowledge and understanding. Your particular set of knowledge and experience gives you a unique perspective, and that makes your ideas and thoughts valuable.
The other side of the coin: if you think you know more than anyone else, you’re probably wrong.
