The quiet voice

In college, I saw a painting in a book that has really stayed with me.

I don’t know the artist or have an image of it, but if I find it again, I’ll be sure to update this post.

Imagine a large canvas, maybe 10 feet square. The majority of the space is taken by a huge red arrow pointing to the right. The message of that arrow is clearly “turn right!”

But on the left part of the canvas is a much smaller human hand, pointing to the left. For me it’s like a calm voice saying “I know everyone else wants you to go right, but listen, I think you should go left.”

We all have that small voice. Some people call it intuition, some believe its angels talking in their ear. In my experience, it’s worth listening to.

Some of the worst, most damaging mistakes I’ve made have been when I’ve ignored that voice.
