Birthdays

When I was a kid, I would get a paper calendar every year, usually at Christmas. It was a yearly ritual that I would then go through my old calendar and transfer birthdays to the new calendar.

I’ve decided to reintroduce that ritual to my life. I still have a calendar hanging in my wall, but birthdays are now treated as data points in my contacts.

I’ve been thinking a lot about building communities, and I’ve been wanting to rebuild a sense of community with those I love but don’t talk to very often. I think doing the birthday thing is a move in the right direction.
