448 opportunities

I looked at the Jim’s Notebook section on my website this morning and got curious about how long it’s been since I posted a blog article. It’s been 448 days.

Ouch.

I’m struggling with that because it feels like a failure. It feels like 448 missed opportunities to clarify my thinking and share an insight with my readers. Not only does it feel like that, it is that. Even worse, the bigger that number gets, the more I find myself not wanting to blog at all. I’m embarrassed to have such a big gap in my blog roll! What happened to 2020?

I started blogging, and specifically trying to do a daily blog, because Seth Godin recommends it. He has good reasons, too: it helps keep your mind working, it gets you to write every day, and so on. Most important to me is that it’s a way to ship something of value every day, and getting into a practice of shipping value to others on a regular basis is a good thing.

As hard as I’ve tried to today to find a way to make lemonade from these 448 lemons, I can’t really spin it as something good. Explaining myself just feels like making excuses. I’m left with the realization that while missing 448 opportunities isn’t a great thing or something to be proud of, it happened. The best thing I can do is simply face it and recommit to blogging again.

See you tomorrow.
